Benthic Ecology Research Technician

Position Description

The Benthic Ecology Lab at Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON) is seeking to hire one Research Technician beginning late 2020. The successful applicant will assist Dr. Archer on multiple projects focused on the ecology of biogenic habitats (e.g., oyster reefs, seagrass beds, and sponge grounds). The successful applicant will join a growing lab that uses a wide variety of approaches (e.g., food web ecology, bioacoustics) to examine how habitat-forming species influence the world around them and how human activities influence the health and function of these habitats. The position will involve a combination of field, lab, and computer-based work.


The candidate should be comfortable working outdoors in and around water and exhibit a willingness to obtain the skills and certifications necessary to operate LUMCON small vessels (https://lumcon.edu/small-boats/). Familiarity with data management and analysis in R is a strong asset.

Duration and Start Date

This position is available beginning as early as October 15th and is 1 year in duration with possible additional support depending upon funding and satisfactory performance.


The position will be based at the DeFelice Marine Center in Cocodrie, LA.
