Cluster Hire For Coastal or Marine Science Faculty Positions

The Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium for Research and Education (LUMCON; https://lumcon.edu) seeks to hire two new Assistant Professors in the second phase of multi-year faculty expansion. We invite well-qualified coastal or marine scientists, regardless of discipline, to apply. We are interested in scientists that address a wide range of fundamental problems in ocean and coastal sciences, as well as interdisciplinary research questions, using observations, modelling, theory and/or field and laboratory experiments.

HVAC/Facilities Technician

LUMCON seeks a full-time HVAC/Facilities Technician to efficiently plan, operate, and maintain facilities, grounds and infrastructure on a cost-effective basis. This position may require varying shifts, multiple sites, and requires personal performance and hands-on work. This position is responsible for the daily maintenance, repair, and remodeling of facilities and associated grounds by performing semiskilled and skilled manual tasks related to the maintenance and repair of buildings, grounds, and equipment. This position performs a variety of technical duties and work assignments may be in any of the building trades. 

Marine Education Associate

The Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON) is seeking to fill a full-time position within the education program. The position is based at the DeFelice Marine Center in Cocodrie, Louisiana. The role of the Marine Education Associate is to support, facilitate, and ensure high quality experiences for all visitors within the LUMCON Marine Education Program. This includes leading field, lab, and classroom activities for a wide variety of audiences at the DeFelice Marine Center and off site field locations. The Marine Education Associate will also be responsible for some travel to classrooms, festivals, and other community events to educate people about the goals and mission of LUMCON and cover topics about marine science. This position requires extensive field work (including on boats), weekends, longer days, and travel to various events around the state.

R/V POINT SUR First Mate/Relief Captain

Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON) located in Cocodrie, Louisiana operates a 134 ft. oceanographic research vessel, the R/V Point Sur, and is currently accepting applications for a First Mate.  The R/V Point Sur is Mississippi’s premier Oceanographic Research Vessel conducting a wide array of research and education cruises for the State of Mississippi and scientist from around the country.  The vessel is home ported at the Port of Gulfport in Gulfport, MS. but regularly docks in Cocodrie, Louisiana.  The First Mate is under general supervision of ship's captain, perform various functions pertaining to operation and maintenance of the vessel, waterfront maintenance, field work and related lab research projects and serve as relief captain as needed.

The R/V Acadiana is LUMCON’s premier Marine Education vessel providing day cruises to students and educators from various schools and universities around the country. The vessel is home ported at the LUMCON facility in Cocodrie. The Captain is under general supervision of LUMCON Port Captain and perform various functions pertaining to operation and maintenance of the vessel, waterfront maintenance, field work and related lab research projects and serve as relief Mate for the R/V Pelican and R/V Point Sur as needed.

Dive Safety Officer (DSO)

Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium is seeking a full-time Dive Safety Officer (DSO). The DSO is responsible for the development, implementation, training, and maintenance of all dive activities associated with LUMCON. The DSO will work under the authority and direction of the LUMCON Marine Superintendent, and the Dive Control Board. This position provides the principal technical expertise, assistance, and training on a wide range of disciplines necessary to conduct advanced underwater research or academic investigations safely and efficiently and to assist scientists in accomplishing specific research goals and objectives.  This job requires a highly organized and motivated individual with strong communication and interpersonal skills. The successful candidate will serve by proxy as LUMCON’s emissary for the community, both academic and public. Wetland Plant Ecology Postdoctoral Research Associate

The Roberts Lab of Ecosystem Ecology and Biogeochemistry is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate in wetland plant ecology to help organize and lead a series of field studies and manipulative experiments studying the effects of the Macondo Oil Spill on coastal marsh ecosystems. Specifically, they will be collaborating with the wetland biogeochemistry, microbial ecology, and plant ecology group of the Coastal Waters Consortium (CWC) led by Drs. Brian Roberts (LUMCON), Anne Giblin (Marine Biological Laboratory), and Anne Bernhard (Connecticut College). Wetland Biogeochemistry Research Associate or Assistant

The Roberts Lab of Ecosystem Ecology and Biogeochemistry is seeking a Research Associate or Assistant in Wetland Biogeochemistry to participate in a series of field/laboratory and manipulative experiments studying the effects of the Macondo Oil Spill on coastal marsh ecosystems. The Associate or Assistant will join a large, multi-institution team of researchers on the Coastal Waters Consortium (CWC) project funded by the Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative to study the impacts of the oil spill and future spills on marshes and coastal environments.
