VISIT THE MARINE CENTER

The DeFelice Marine Center is a premier living laboratory and is the location where most LUMCON staff operations are based. The Marine Center is open for self-guided tours from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm seven days a week. You can meet the animals in our aquaria, learn about Louisiana’s marine side with our educational exhibits, climb the observation tower for a bird’s-eye view of the marsh, and birdwatch from our pond boardwalk.

Public groups (more than 10 people) are welcome to schedule a guided tour or a longer trip (including educational activities) into the salt marshes, bays, or island environments near Cocodrie.  Contact our Associate Director of Education and Outreach to learn more and schedule a trip.

Note: Until further notice, the Hwy 56 bridge at Robison Canal is closed.  Please use Hwy 57/Grand Caillou Road as an alternate route.  If you’d like detailed driving directions you can email us at information@lumcon.edu.

VISIT BLUE WORKS

LUMCON opened this state-of-the-art facility on December 7, 2023. Blue Works is an expansion of LUMCON programs and operations that helps LUMCON realize new ways to support and achieve its mission to promote, facilitate, and conduct research and education collaborations among Louisiana’s universities in marine and coastal sciences relevant to the sustainability of the coastal and marine environments of the Gulf of Mexico. Blue Works was built to better serve the our consortium and the state of Louisiana by expanding LUMCON expertise in engineering and technology-focused research within the state, contributing to redefining the workforce, and helping to lead the way into new and exciting scientific research that benefits us locally, nationally and globally.

Blue Works is available as an event venue for our consortium members and community.  LUMCON is also building new research and education programs at the new facility.  More information about research programs, events, and learning opportunities are coming soon. Check our social media for updates.  If you have questions about what we are currently offering contact us by email information@lumcon.edu.
