EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Postdoctoral Associate position in Coastal Biogeochemistry

Available immediately.
Review of applications will continue until the position is filled

The Bowles Lab of Aquatic Geomicrobiology at the Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON)
is seeking a postdoctoral research associate to join our interdisciplinary research team. We are looking
for a curious and organized problem-solver to lead and participate in field and laboratory work centered
around methane efflux from coastal off-shore sediments. The candidate will participate in multiple
cruises in the Gulf of Mexico and be an integral part of a multiple institution NSF funded project.

At LUMCON the postdoctoral associate will focus on microbial activity analysis and geochemical
measurements. The successful applicant will work closely with the Roberts Lab at LUMCON on cruise
preparation, sample collection, and analysis. Additionally, the postdoc will have the opportunity to work
alongside our interdisciplinary team of researchers from Louisiana State University and the University of
Georgia with experience in radiochemistry, in situ microsensors, inorganic geochemistry, and reactive
transport modeling. The postdoc will also have the opportunity to develop their own original research
project(s) related to the project goals. This is a unique opportunity to join an interdisciplinary and
collaborative research team to develop an independent research program. More details can be found on
the MEFFLUX project website.

Qualifications:

The candidate must have a Ph.D. in biogeochemistry, geochemistry, microbial ecology,
geomicrobiology, oceanography, or a related field. The preferred candidate will have experience with
field and laboratory instruments. The ideal candidate will understand sediment microbial processes and
we particularly welcome those with experience regarding the carbon and iron cycles to apply.
Duration and Start Date: The position is supported by an extramural research grant. The position is
available in January 2023. The initial appointment is for 1 year with possible additional support (up to
1.5 more years) dependent on performance.

Location:

The position will be based at the Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON) Marine
Center in Cocodrie, LA (visit https://lumcon.edu/facilities/ for information on the facility).
