In 2023, LUMCON is expanding its programs through the opening of a maritime research and outreach facility in Houma.

Position Overview

The Finance Manager is responsible for the Finance Department including accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, grants, contracts, and purchasing. The Finance Manager will analyze everyday financial activities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting.
  • At least three years of supervisor or manager experience.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • At least three years of professional-level experience in procurement, financial management, compliance, or accounting.

Ideal Candidate / Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in grant management experience highly preferred.
  • State and university finance experience preferred.

Essential Duties

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited the following:

  • Serves as audit liaison officer with federal and state auditors, grant program managers, and other officials.
  • Executes change to procedures, policies, and systems to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements.
  • Directs and oversees the financial activities and staff of the Finance Department, sets goals and objectives, and designs a framework for these to be met.
  • Works closely with the Chief Operating Officer (COO)/Deputy Director on operating budget development, monitoring of actual spending against budget, and ongoing budgetary oversight.
  • Maintains an accurate filing and record keeping system for all financial statements and company documents.
  • Directs and assists in the necessary functions of the Finance Department including the review, reconciliation and maintenance of records and financial transactions in journals, ledgers, schedules, accounts, and other related files.
  • Directs the development and execution of specialized databases and systems for recording and tracking grant proposals, awards, and related statistical information; creates and distributes standard and special reports, studies, summaries, and analyses, as required.
  • Monitors and coordinates the administration of post-award grants to ensure that budgeting and administrative policies, procedures, and agency requirements are being followed; manages administrative problems and/or budget changes occurring during the awarded granting period.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
