MAINTAINING COMPLIANCE AT YOUR COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY

If you are a university or college Consortium member Risk Manager or Environmental Health and Safety Manager, or even a PI concerned about diving activities at your institute and would like help or advice in mitigating risk, you may contact the LUMCON DSO to arrange an onsite visit or conference call.

Many university or college authorities or administrators are unaware of the tremendous risks associated with institutionally authorized diving operations and mistakenly assume that a PI or researcher has the expertise to supervisor diving. All non-recreational diving in this country is regulated at the Federal level and there is no legal defense for allowing a university-sanctioned dive operation to occur without a supporting program in place to oversee that operation in the event of a mishap with injuries or worse. Institutional level support at a minimum requires a Diving Safety Manual and a Diving Control Board.

BECOME A LUMCON DIVING SUPERVISOR AT YOUR INSTITUTE

LUMCON is actively seeking scientific divers at Consortium member sites to receive additional DSO level training. Diving Supervisors will be available on site to help with logistics of dive operations, to answer questions for prospective scientific divers, and to act as a liaison between LUMCON and the Consortium member. If you are a current scientific diver and interested in receiving training and guidance to become a Diving Supervisor, contact the LUMCON DSO.

Contact the LUMCON DSO for more information.
